“The Battle of Surb Arakelots Monastery” Documentary Film Screened at “Hayartun” Center
On April 25, 2026, the hall of the “Hayartun” Center of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia was filled. With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, the documentary “The Battle of Surb Arakelots Monastery” was screened. The film, dedicated to the immortal heroes of the nation, was written and directed by pedagogue Revik Karapetyan, a researcher of Armenian history and the Armenian heritage.
The film is dedicated to the heroic yet unequal struggle of the fedayi fighters led by Andranik Ozanian in 1901 at the Surb Arakelots Monastery (11th century), in the district of Mush in historical Armenia. For twenty days, a small group of Armenian fighters resisted the Turkish army of three thousand.
Symbolically, the film affirmed that while Armenians on April 24 remember and commemorate the 1.5 million canonized martyrs of the Armenian Genocide, April 25 comes to reaffirm the nation’s unbreakable spirit, its hope, faith, and its enduring commitment to justice and restoration.
Speakers expressed their appreciation and gratitude to Revik Karapetyan, who, without any support or assistance, presented to the Armenian community of Georgia one of the glorious chapters of Armenian history - “The Battle of Surb Arakelots Monastery.”
Those present also proposed and encouraged Revik Karapetyan to continue producing historical documentary films on Armenian history and to make them accessible for public screenings.
