Tbilisi’s Armenian Heritage Introduced to Georgian-Armenian Youth

The Youth Department of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia continues its initiative to introduce Armenian youth from various regions of Georgia to the Armenian heritage of Tbilisi. The project is implemented within the framework of the “Civic Dialogue and Practical Steps for Change 2025”  program, with the support of the Jinishian Memorial Foundation.

The aim of the initiative is to familiarize young Armenians with the notable and historic sites of the capital, deepen their integration into Georgian society, promote their linguistic and cultural development, and cultivate a strong sense of civic responsibility as full members of the country’s society.

On November 22, 2025, with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, the Diocesan Youth Department organized a visit to Tbilisi for 20 young people from the village of Karmir, Marneuli region. Led by Emil Sargsyan and Anna Mkrtichyan, heads of the Youth Department, the program began at the St. Etchmiadzin Church in Havlabar, where they received the blessing of Rev. Father Samvel Torosyan and learned about the history of the church.

The young people from Karmir village toured the “Hayartun” Cultural, Educational, and Youth Center and paid their respects at the Khojivank Pantheon, honoring the memory of Armenian writers and public figures buried there.

At Hovhannes Tumanyan’s House-Museum, the young visitors listened with great interest and learned not only about Tumanyan’s Tbilisi residence but also about the contribution and legacy of the Armenian people in the development of the culture, architecture, and overall urban life of Georgia’s capital.

The walk through the old Tiflis district was particularly impressive, filled with historical charm and unique architectural character. What they saw and heard at the Karavansara Museum left an indelible impression on the young participants.

The day concluded in a warm atmosphere with a friendly dinner.
