Preserving Armenian Intangible Heritage Through the Transmission, Promotion, and Popularization of Crafts

Within the framework of the program “Transmitting Armenian Crafts to Future Generations for the Preservation of Intangible Heritage,” funded by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, a series of craft masterclasses was held on November 30, 2025, at the “Hayartun” Educational, Cultural and Youth Center of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. The masterclasses were conducted by master teachers from the Yerevan Museum of Folk Arts. Participants included students of the center’s fine arts group, university students, and enthusiasts of traditional crafts.

After the welcoming remarks by Eugenia Markosyan, “Hayartun” Center Director, and the paternal blessing conveyed by His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, the participants divided into four groups and began crafting various items under the guidance of master teachers.

Led and instructed by embroidery master Armenuhi Khachatryan, felt-making masters Marine Gharibyan and Tsovinar Tadevosyan, and carpet- and rug-weaving master Margarita Khachyan, the students explored new aspects of traditional Armenian crafts and created a variety of toys, dolls, and embroidery samples.

On the same day, Armenian master teachers conducted a craft workshop at the “House of Hovhannes Tumanyan” Educational and Cultural Center of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. Symbolically, the doll they made during the workshop was intended as a gift for the “St. Moses of Khoren” (Surb Movses Khorenatsi) preschool of the “Hayartun” Center.

The participants of the workshop decided to showcase the items they created at the New Year's fair.
