Intercessory Prayer at St. George Cathedral in Tbilisi
On April 24, 2026, Armenians in Armenia and across the diaspora commemorate the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide with reverence and intercessory prayer. At the Cathedral of Saint George in Tbilisi, under the presidency of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, clergy and deacons, together with many faithful, offered intercessory prayer in memory of the 1.5 million innocent martyrs of the Armenian Genocide, who endured inhuman suffering and perished “for faith and for the homeland.”
Addressing the public, the Diocesan Primate reflected on the monstrous genocide organized and carried out by the Ottoman Empire at the beginning of the 20th century. He paid tribute to the now canonized martyrs who fell victim to its inhuman persecutions, as well as to the survivors who escaped and were scattered across the world. Relying on the crucified and risen Savior, their descendants continue, both in the Mother Homeland and in different corners of the globe, to honor the memory of their ancestors, in the name of justice and with steadfast faith in the triumph of the Armenian just cause.
Presided over by His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, the Diocesan Primate, those in attendance laid flowers at the khachkar (cross-stone) erected in the church courtyard.
