Holy Resurrection Candlelight Divine Liturgy at Holy Etchmiadzin Church in Tbilisi
On April 4, 2026, on the evening of Holy Saturday, on the occasion of the Glorious Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Candlelight Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the churches of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. The Holy Etchmiadzin church in Tbilisi was filled with the faithful. Under the presidency of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, the Candlelight Divine Liturgy of the Holy Resurrection was celebrated by Rev. Father Samvel Torosyan.
During the Divine Liturgy, His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, in his sermon, reflected on the mystery of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, the defeat of evil and the triumph of good, the victory of life over death. Witnessing the complex political situation in the country and living through a challenging period for the Mother Church, His Grace urged the faithful to hold fast to the hope of the Resurrection, for the power of death has been overcome and our lives are neither meaningless nor without purpose. He encouraged them to be strengthened, to cast away anxiety and fear, and to strengthen their souls with unwavering devotion to faith, fidelity to Christ, and love for one another. At the conclusion of his sermon, Bishop Kirakos proclaimed the good news of the Savior’s glorious Resurrection: “Christ is risen from the dead. Blessed is the Resurrection of Christ.”
The faithful warmly congratulated one another on the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, they lit their candles from the lowered altar candle and returned home, carrying with them the Holy Light of the Lord’s Resurrection and His blessing. Following this, the first Home Blessing Service after the Feast of the Holy Resurrection was performed, during which bread, water, and salt were blessed.
Divine Liturgies dedicated to the Feast of the Holy Resurrection of Jesus Christ were celebrated in the functioning churches of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.
