Film Screening Dedicated to Armenian General Vasili Bebutov at “Hayartun” Center
On March 1, 2026, with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, and at the initiative of the Union of Armenian Intellectuals of Georgia (President: Yenok Tadevosyan), a documentary film dedicated to Armenian General Vasili (Barsegh) Bebutov was screened at the Diocesan “Hayartun” Center as part of the “Our Great Great Figures” series.
The name of the Armenian general has been inscribed in golden letters in the military chronicle of Imperial Russia.
Vasili Bebutov was born in Tbilisi and belonged to the small number of distinguished noble families whose homeland was Armenia, yet who held high rank among the princely houses of Georgia. Wherever Vasily Bebutov served, he earned and left behind the reputation of a skilled military strategist and a wise organizer.
Following the screening of the documentary film provided by the Grand Candy company of the Republic of Armenia, historian Yenok Tadevosyan delivered commentary on the victorious battles led by Vasili Bebutov in the Russian Empire and the Caucasian region.
Vasili Bebutov passed away in 1858 in Tbilisi. His body was laid to rest in the Khojivank Surb Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God) Church. However, during the period of the church’s destruction, this church too was demolished, and thus the grave of the distinguished military commander was lost.
