Feast of the Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin Celebrated in Tbilisi

On June 7, 2026, the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church celebrated the Feast of Holy Etchmiadzin.

On the occasion of this blessed day, the Holy and Immortal Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the churches of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.

The Saint Etchmiadzin church in Avlabari, Tbilisi, is one of the few churches to bear the name of the spiritual center of the Armenian Apostolic Church. The festive Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Rev. Father Kirakos Simonyan under the presidency of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.

During the Divine Liturgy, the Diocesan Primate touched upon the significance of the feast day, the history of the construction of the Holy Etchmiadzin Cathedral, the universal house of faith of the Armenian people, and the Armenian nation's enduring faithfulness to the Christian faith established by Almighty God and Armenia’s first Patriarch and Catholicos, Gregory the Illuminator. He also spoke about the nation-preserving values upheld by the Armenian Church under the leadership of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and its continuing mission to safeguard the spiritual and national identity of the Armenian people.

His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan urged the faithful to remain united around the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. He offered prayers to Almighty God for peace and security for Armenia and Holy Etchmiadzin, and called upon the faithful to remain steadfast in their Christian faith and devoted to the spiritual center of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church.

Following the Divine Liturgy, a Pontifical Prayer Service was held under the presidency of the Diocesan Primate. The faithful and the clergy offered prayers for the enduring strength of Holy Etchmiadzin and for the good health and long life of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians.
