Armenian Diocese in Georgia Participated in Ecumenical Prayer

An ecumenical prayer in Georgia is offered jointly by four Christian denominations and their faithful. These are the Armenian Diocese in Georgia of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church, the Roman Catholic Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the Evangelical Baptist Church. This common prayer service is held annually under the presidency of one of the four churches.

In 2026, the Evangelical Baptist Church was the organizer of the prayer for Christian unity. The ecumenical prayer took place on January 24 at the Peace Cathedral of the Evangelical Baptist Church.

With the blessing and support of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, the Diocese took part in the service, represented by the Deacon Gevorg Avetisyan, the choir of the Cathedral of Saint George in Tbilisi, and Armenian faithful.

The motto of this year’s joint service in devotion to the Word of God was:
“There is one body and one Spirit — just as you were called to one hope when you were called.”
(Ephesians 4:4)

Although the cultures and languages of the participants in the ecumenical prayer differed, the essence of the prayers was the same: the Christian faith, the plea for deliverance from captivity and from the humiliation of human dignity, and the call to fill human souls with unity and the love inherent in Christianity.

Indeed, the extensive organizational effort undertaken by the host Church and the participating denominations was clearly evident.
