Screening of “Brotherhood in Battle” Documentary Dedicated to Great Victory Anniversary

On May 10, 2026, with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia, a screening of Garik Mashkaryan’s documentary “Brotherhood in Battle” was held at the Diocese’s “Hayartun” Center. The event was dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the Great Victory.

Following the welcoming remarks delivered by Eugenia Markosyan, Director of the Diocese’s “Hayartun” Center, an introductory presentation about the film was given by its producer and host Ruben Pashinyan, who had arrived from Yerevan especially for the occasion. Ruben Pashinyan is a writer, director, actor, and journalist.

The pages of the history of the Great Patriotic War are filled with the names of heroes who sacrificed their lives for their homeland and for the liberation struggle of nations. However, many devoted Armenians and representatives of other nationalities fought heroically, yet their names remained unknown to the wider public, and their heroic deeds were never properly recognized, eventually fading into obscurity.

With this goal in mind, director Garik Mashkaryan and producer Ruben Pashinyan launched a documentary film project aimed at making these forgotten heroes known to the public, rescuing their stories from oblivion, and preserving their memory for future generations. The first documentary in the “Brotherhood in Battle” series was dedicated to the memory of fighter pilot and Hero of the Soviet Union Vazgen Oganesov.

The film is rich in historical episodes and accounts of heroic actions carried out by its protagonist during the war years. These stories are further supported by the recollections of family members and documentary materials. The documentary also reveals the operation that prevented an attempt to evacuate Hitler from Berlin in the spring of 1945. The film makes the name of Armenian hero Vazgen Oganesov truly unforgettable and worthy of pride.

According to director Garik Mashkaryan and producer Ruben Pashinyan, the documentary series is expected to continue, with the next film dedicated to the memory of Hero of the Soviet Union and pilot David Merkviladze. At the conclusion of the screening and following a discussion with the audience, Ruben Pashinyan also read excerpts from several short literary works included in his collection “A Priori.”
