Feast of Ascension Celebrated in Tbilisi with Divine Liturgy
On May 14, 2026, the Armenian Apostolic Church celebrated the Feast of the Ascension, marking the 40 days Christ remained on earth after the Resurrection before His miraculous ascent into heaven, as well as commemoration of the relocation of the Armenian Catholicosate from Sis to Vagharshapat. The feast was solemnly celebrated at the Saint Echmiadzin Church in Tbilisi with Divine Liturgy, offered under the presidency of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.
The church was filled with the faithful. Adding a special beauty to the large gathering was the presence of the students of the Diocesan “Saint Movses Khoren” Preschool and from various groups of the “Hayartun” Center, adorned with floral wreaths.
During the Divine Liturgy, Rev. Father Samvel Torosyan delivered an appropriate sermon on the spiritual meaning of the Feast of the Ascension and congratulated the faithful on the glorious Ascension of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Following the Divine Liturgy, the Patriarchal Prayer Service was offered under the presidency of His Grace Bishop Kirakos Davtyan, Primate of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia. At the conclusion of the ceremony, he reflected on the difficult periods of history that led to the wanderings of the See of Catholicosate and spoke about the pivotal importance in Armenian history of the final reestablishment of the Patriarchal Catholicosate in Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin in 1441. The Diocesan Primate concluded his sermon with prayers and well wishes for peace throughout the world, for the steadfastness of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, for the long life of join His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, and for the flourishing and prosperity of Armenia and Georgia.
Festive Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Cathedral of Saint George in Tbilisi, as well as in the Diocesan churches in Batumi, Samtskhe–Javakheti, and Kvemo Kartli.
